Visit of Delegation from SMEDA, Mauritius at WASME International Secretariat
“A delegation from Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority(SMEDA), Mauritius visited WASME International Secretariat at Noida, India on 23rd January 2017. The delegation included Mr. Phalraj Servansingh, Managing Director, SMEDA, Ms. Poomal Mootoosamy, Business Development Officer, SMEDA and Mr. Seewraj Nundlall, Country Head – India, Board of Investment, Mauritius.
The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is a parastatal body established under the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority Act 2009. The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives and is committed to support and facilitate the development of entrepreneurship and SMEs in Mauritius.
WASME and SMEDA has historical association and this meeting was extremely meaningful in re-strengthening the cooperation between two organizations. Recently SMEDA is organising International SME Technology Fair 2017 from 12 to 14 May 2017 in Mauritius and the meeting was focused around identifying the various ways to collaborate so as to promote SMEs in both the countries.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Ms. Sampa Banerjee, Executive Director, WASME and Ms. Archana Sharma, Head Communications, WASME. The meeting began with the introductory presentation on WASME, shared by Ms. Archana Sharma, followed by discussion on status of SMEs in both the countries for development.
Ms. Sampa Banerjee shared the recent activities undertaken by WASME in different countries and like Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa etc as well as in India.
There were discussions on understanding the roadmap of collaboration and association between WASME and SMEDA by carrying out various activities jointly including information dissemination, conferences, seminar, training and workshops, research studies, market linkages etc. for the development of SMEs in Mauritius. WASME being an international organisation promoting SMEs in many countries in the world can provide its extensive experience and expertise on various challenges faced by SMEs in Mauritius like lack of market linkages, capacity building, export opportunities, finance, innovation, entrepreneurship development etc.
It was understood SMEDA shall re – initiate WASME Membership for long term cooperation and also to offer proactive support to SMEDA in their upcoming SME Technology Fair in May 2017.
